Q: What is a Micro Grant?

A: A small amount of money (up to a few thousand dollars) to give an artist a little bump of helpful cash. (money from grandma!)

Q: What does “unrestricted” micro grant mean?

A: Some grants have requirements for how the grant money will be used. “Unrestricted” means you can use the grant money however you wish, no questions asked.

Q: Who can apply?

A: Individual visual artists who live and/or work in the Queens neighborhoods with the zip code 11385 can apply. Please check this detailed neighborhood boundary map to see if you are eligible. If you are not within this boundary you are not eligible for a grant.

Q: How do you define a Visual Artist?

A: We recognize that defining a visual artist is tricky as many artists work within more than one discipline. The main focus of your work must be visual. Example mediums: painting, drawing, sculpture, craft, collage, printmaking, photography, mural arts, installation and multimedia. Traditional filmmakers are not eligible. Writers are not eligible. Musicians are not eligible. If you are multidisciplinary (that’s great!) however, we ask that you please submit visual artwork for consideration.

Q: Who is ineligible?

• Artists who do not live or work in the 11385 zip code.

• Artists who have been awarded a TTFF micro grant in the past 5 years.

• Artists who are applying as a group or collective.

• Artists who are currently enrolled in a visual arts degree program.

• Employees, board members, or immediate family members of the foundation.

Q: What documents are acceptable to prove my address in the 11385 zip code?

A: Acceptable documents showing your Queens, 11385 address include: NY State I.D., utility bill, bank or credit card statement, lease agreement, other business mailings addressed to you, *SIGNED AFFIDAVIT. Documents can either be scanned if it is a paper document, screen shot, or you can take a pic with your phone.

*if you share a space and do not have documentation addressed to your name you can submit documentation addressed to your studio/roommate and a signed affidavit statement from the person whose name appears on the submitted documents confirming you are living and/or working there.

Q: When can I apply?

A: The Spring 2025 cycle is open from April 1 - April 30.

Q: Do I have to be a US citizen or legal resident to apply?

A: We are required by law to have each recipient submit a W-9 form. You will also be issued a 1099-NEC form for miscellaneous income for the tax year you received your grant.

Q: How do you distribute the funds?

A: We issue old-fashioned paper checks. 

Q: Can I re-apply for the grant if I was not awarded it?

A: Yes! You are welcome to reapply for the next grant cycle.

Q: Can I apply on behalf of an artist who lives or works in the zip code 11385 in Queens, NY?

A: No, the application must be made by the person who is seeking the grant.

Q: Can students apply?

A: No, students are not eligible for this grant.

Q: How do you notify artists once they have been selected for a TTFF Micro Grant?

A: If you have been selected to receive a TTFF Micro Grant you will be notified via the email you used to submit your application. 

Q: When will grantees be notified?

A: Grantees will be notified starting July 2025.

Q: What is the selection process?

A: Grantees are chosen by an independent selection committee of 2 or more art world professionals. We do not disclose the selection committees’ identities.

Q: Why are you limiting applications to the zip code 11385?

A: We are a small non-profit and want to make as much impact on our community as possible. Issuing micro grants allows us to give a bit of financial help to more people in our community of Queens, 11385. As we grow we plan to expand to other neighborhoods!

Q: I am having trouble with my Jotform application - please help!

A: Jotform is a little tricky and we have some very important advice that will help make filling out your application a friction-free experience.

DO NOT use Safari to fill out this application. We strongly recomend using Chrome or Firefox. Make sure your browser software is up to date. For example, in Chrome you will see a button on the upper right side of your screen that says "update chrome".

Before starting this application, please refresh this webpage and make sure to SAVE each page as you go along. You must register your email and set up a password with Jotform in order to save your form.

If you applied in the past and have already registered with Jotform - you can use that login info to save this application. If you forgot your password you must RESET it since your email is already registered. 

There is no time limit to complete the application, but if you leave the form sitting on your browser for a day or more, it may create an error and not submit. Please save your work and click out of the browser. You can access your partially completed form from the link jotform sent to your email.

We recommend that you save your submission content in a separate document and copy/paste it to the application.
